What I do
Business Psychologist? Organisational Psychologist? Behavioural Scientist? What does all of that mean anyway? Personally I like the definition provided by the Australian Psychological Society – the application of deep understanding of both human behaviour and organisational systems to improve individual, team and organisational performance, productivity, effectiveness and wellbeing. That pretty much sums it up. But what does that look like in practice?
What it Looks Like
Most of the work I do can be categorised under the following headings:
- Coaching
- Training
- Facilitation
- Consulting
- Small Business Support
I adopt a ‘systems thinking’ approach to my work, which is why I love working across the individual, team and organisational realms. For example, issues you may be having with the behaviour of one leader will most likely be influenced by not just that person’s individual personality, motivation and leadership style, but also by the impact of their leadership team environment, as well as aspects of the culture and performance/remuneration & reward systems that may be reinforcing their behaviour.
Expect me to ask a lot of questions. This may get frustrating at times and I apologise in advance, but it’s necessary if we want to move beyond simply ‘applying bandaids’ to symptoms and generate some meaningful and sustainable change.
Coaching
My coaching programs are designed specifically to assist you to identify, challenge and replace your unhelpful thinking patterns and aspects of your leadership style. They help you raise your leadership awareness and boost your leadership effectiveness.
Training
I deliver engaging, informative, high energy keynotes and training programs (virtual and face to face) for your leaders and staff. My sessions are full of evidence based, pragmatic strategies that participants can implement immediately for sustainable change.
Facilitation
I specialise in facilitating, team, leadership team and engagement workshops. Engaging, entertaining yet productive. My team facilitation transcends “team building” to sustainably improve team functioning. I help you get your team on the right track.
Consulting
Let’s start by understanding your business. There are plenty of consultants who waive their shiny brochure at you and tell you why you should implement their ‘latest program’. As a Business Psychologist, I like to diagnose first. This initial diagnostic phase could involve interviews, focus groups, or surveys. Together we work to understand the issues (at the individual, team and organisational levels), then recommend, design, implement and evaluate the solutions.
Small Business Support
Your external “People Partner”! One of the things I really enjoy about working with small business is the opportunity to work with passionate business owners and make a real difference to people’s lives and livelihoods. As an experienced Business Psychologist, I help small to medium business owners deal with the challenging people side of your business. Everything from attracting & retaining good staff to ‘mopping up the mess’ when things go wrong.
